2026/'27 Season Why is the night sky dark?
Join one of our inspiring NightSky Wonderer Tours
We rarely take the time to stare into the night sky. Many of us can't as skies are obscured by modern-day, urban, lighting. So let us take you on a journey of wonder, amazement and learning. Let us open the Universe up to you, your family and friends. Join one of our family friendly tours to hear about the wonders in the night sky learning, the nature of Space and the Universe above you. Learn cool stuff about the concept of space and time that will leave you excited to tell your friends about when you get home! If you are lucky there may be a glimpse of the Aurorae!
On our tours you will also get the chance to use interactive tech to search the sky, take part in hands-on experiments and use some real astronomer equipment to search above you! With stops at three key sites, with important messages about the sky above, you will also have plenty time to quench your curiosity and ask lots of questions. We also offer hot and cold beverages and a chance to reconnect with nature.

YOUR CAPTAIN TO THE STARS
You guide is Mac Walker. With a home on the Isle of Lewis, and a family from the island, and a career based in Edinburgh, Mac has been obsessed with stars and the universe since he was tiny. Much of his interest and focus is on the concept of time and disorder and this is reflected in the tour.
With an honours degree Astrophysics from the Open University, an honours degree in Chemistry from Aberdeen University, an MBA and a first in Law, Mac is passionate about learning and a skilled communicator and teacher.
Mac's tours are not about educating per se, this is not a school field trip, they are about inspiring people to ask questions about what's happening out there and why. Getting everyone from adults to kids interested in STEM topics is critical to the future of us all, and this is Mac's contribution to that goal.

Guide to Tour Times
As the year progresses it goes from very dark in winter to very light in summer. You can see this in our graphic below. THe top table indicates tour start times (usually - see booking screen for definite times). The red bars, no the chart beneath, indicate the nature of daylight throughout the year at our latitude.
